The first session launches the StartUp Academy program. We will review logistics, agenda, and introductions then dive right into the content, including the Business Model Scorecard, (BMSC) as a way to accelerate your new business to market, engage customers, and grow revenue through the development of your business model and action plan. The Business Model Scorecard, a self guided visual thinking tool, has been designed specifically to guide you through the universal steps of building a sustainable company. One of the key components to starting your own business is that you cannot do it alone. It is critical to identify people who complement your passion and skills. No one ever created a successful business without a team!

Naming and Branding Your Company

You know that a company name is important, but how do you go about creating a memorable and marketable name? StartUp Academy Mentors will facilitate you through the creative process in an effort to help you come up with a name that stands out and is memorable. How important is a good name? What are the different types of names and how do you choose a good one? How do you secure a name on the Internet? What are the best practices to find, review, and select a name from an unlimited number of options? What do you need to do to protect your name? What is your brand? How does a name reflect your brand? Mentors, including marketing and branding specialists, will work with you to identify the best approach to help you create buzz, facilitate customers to create a relationship with your brand, and set you apart from your competition.

Customer Development / Business Model Refinement

In this session you will learn how to develop customers, test your customer assumptions, and leverage the Internet to better understand your market, customer and competitive landscape. Learn inexpensive techniques for testing your assumptions and how to reach your target audience. We will work with you to develop methods to go to market quickly and generate revenue. Mentors will work through your business model collectively in an effort to better understand lessons learned along with identification of new opportunities to improve.

Creating Your StartUp Game Plan

Just like any successful sports team you need a game plan to give your startup every advantage to succeed. Through a combination of out-of-the-box thinking, visual communications and strategic planning our team of Mentors will facilitate you through the creation of your startup game plan. Where are you in your startup process? What are the realities of your situation – the good, the bad and the ugly? Where do you want to go with your business? How are you going to get where you want to go? What are the steps you need to take to get to where you want to go? What is your action plan? How do you develop a timeline with milestones? What are some ways to continue working with the StartUp Academy mentoring network?

Building Your Revenue Model

A solid revenue model is not only vital to the success of your company it is the foundation for a sustainable business. Understanding your revenue model will support you to stay focused on your market niche and target audience. Our team of Mentors will help you understand how to build a revenue model tailored to your unique startup. How many revenue streams does your business potentially have? What is the percentage of revenue per stream? How can you grow your revenue? What has worked for other similar businesses to grow their revenue? How do you track revenue? How do you set financial goals and target milestones to meet them?

Bootstrapping Your Company: Cash Flow and Funding

Where do you find potential strategic partners? What strengths do you need to look for in a potential strategic partner? How do you create strategic partner targets? How do you create a road map of success for a strategic partnership?

Creating Your Marketing, Public Relations, and Social Media Strategy

Your pitch must persuade the prospective audience that you have something worth investing in. Our team of Mentors is seasoned in the creation of powerful pitches and will share with you their insights so you can learn “The Art of the Pitch”. How do you develop the confidence to pitch? How do you create a two-minute elevator pitch? How do you communicate what is most important to potential investor/partners? How can you create short phrases that get your value across? How do you make the pitch fun and engaging? How often do you need to practice your pitch? How many slides should you have in your PowerPoint presentation? How do you design a PowerPoint presentation? How do you integrate visuals? Where do you find examples of great pitches? How do you close your pitch with a bang? How do you leave your audience wanting more?

 

New Business Launch Celebration

Congratulations! You have successfully navigated through the first chapter of your entrepreneurial journey. Invite your family and friends to the official launch party of your new start-up. You will officially introduce your new business to leaders of the community and the press. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is the culmination of completing the Launch program. Food and drinks will be provided, along with networking opportunities and special announcements.
